Rules Of American Football

American football is one of the biggest sports in North America. While the game is played around the world, professional leagues in North America (such as the NFL) easily attract the best players in the world, making their leagues the most competitive. The game culminates in the annual Super Bowl for millions of people around the world.

While each team has only 11 players on the field, an American football team is actually made up of 45 players. Teams are generally divided into three attacking groups (usually small, strong, fast type players, including a quarterback who can play attacking plays and throw the ball to their teammates). Each team has 4 down for 10 yards or more. They can throw or run the ball to make yards. Downs reset and yards reset as the team acquires the required yards. Failure to create yards after 4 downs will result in turnover.

At number four, offenders have the option of either trying to make the yards they are short of or kicking the ball. If they decide to kick, they have two options; Punting or trying for a field goal. Depending on their position on the pitch will usually determine their incompleteness. Anything within 40 yards or more of the opponent's goal posts will result in an attempt to score a field goal. Going back and forth will probably mean that they take the punt option.
